Dominique Renson – Artist and Models

At L'Orangerie

Born in the 1960s, Dominique Renson studied at the Duperré School and at the Beaux-Arts in Paris. Defying trends, she expresses herself through portraiture and still life and was featured in the 2023 exhibition.

Figurations: un autre art d'aujourd'hui at the Ferme Ornée of the Maison Caillebotte.

Following her beautiful exhibition last spring at the Mazarine Variations Gallery—Elles, sorcières et sibylles, centered on powerful, strong-willed women—Dominique Renson reveals a more intimate side of herself at the Orangerie, presenting series of self-portraits and portraits.

She tends to treat her backgrounds sparingly, allowing her figures to “emerge from the canvas” without concessions: she overlooks none of the marks left by time on the face, neck, skin, or body, and she depicts thinness in the manner of the Northern European Expressionists.

Her works, often inspired by her predecessors and the great master of art history, reveal all facets of the artist. Here an iris; there the artist chained to her easel; elsewhere she lies in the pose of Holbein»s Christ. She lays herself bare with strength and realism.
