Since the 1950s, a figurative section of contemporary art has developed in the shadow of the avant-gardes. Neglected by museum institutions, it was nevertheless defended by demanding gallery owners and attracted a public of informed and international collectors. This work of line, of expression, of the human needs to be looked at now in the light of the return of figuration that we can currently see. Hanging in the Ferme Ornée, around a hundred works chosen by the art critic Guy Boyer allow us to find 35 artists who do not have the place they deserve, such as Dado, Jean Rustin, Gilles Aillaud and Dominique Renson, or which have recently been brought back to the fore by museums such as Sam Szafran, Susanne Hay and Pierre Skira. At the Orangerie, a contemporary exhibition presents new trends in figuration in France today with twelve artists (six women and six men), exhibited three by three throughout the duration of the main exhibition.
